F1 vs f2 foxy lady DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDE

/topic/33571-producing-wodveitchia-seed/ The seeds all had 2 white racing stripes. Therefore, you would expect the foxtails to have the wider leaves. Been in pots in the greenhouse for a couple years, very hard to tell. Mine are Veitchia Joannis that we’re planted about the same time. Wow that looks like a lot of growth for 6 months since planting.

  • Foxy Lady palms are incredibly fast growing palms and I think yours has a fighting chance if you get it in the ground ASAP and keep it’s rootball watered.
  • I’m hoping that the foxy lady will turn all green it only has 1 frond that is variegated.
  • Maybe a few other palmtalkers that I sold F2 to can pipe in.
  • The vast majority of the good looking seed are NOT viable.
  • If anyone can find a pic of a small full green please post to show the difference thank you
  • If you know anyone looking who would make a good palm parent send em my way.
  • Can you tell me if this baby foxy is a full green ?

I would LOVE to own that ‘ugly’ palm. I bought a 7 gallon from Premier Growers about 8 months ago and it’s already outgrowing the 25 gallon pot I moved it into. I foxy gold casino have 3-7g (one slight variegation)

Now correct me if I am wrong is it true that even the green ones will spit out some variation in its life span ? I bought one like that on eBay recently and it will eventually be planted in a shady/partially sunny area of the garden. There is a variegated one on ebay right now ends in 21 hours Yup, and that’s why 100% green go for more $$

I moved the pot to a shadier spot in my yard and applied copious water this morning, and went home at lunch and gave it another soaking. A plant like this that makes tons of roots hates being in a pot made for Hawaii or FL. It’s a bad combination for the palm to deal with root trauma and to fight full scorching sun at the same time. 300+ palms, 90+ species in the ground Do you know if this palm was field grown, dug up, and then placed in its pot?

  • In all the years i have observed it, fronds on the variegated spec.
  • I have 3-3g (one slight variegation)
  • Mine are Veitchia Joannis that we’re planted about the same time.
  • Hybrids seem to have a higher rate of growth for some reason.
  • What I have noticed is that the width of the foxylady leaves tend to be a little wider and a little more dark hairs on the leaf bases.
  • Lots of people have been sold green ‘foxy lady’ palms in the past, that eventually turn out growing up into standard foxtails.

For the past few months, specimens are in the 1gal pot size, with the palm being around a 1’ in height, most are variegated form. Foxy Lady palms are incredibly fast growing palms and I think yours has a fighting chance if you get it in the ground ASAP and keep it’s rootball watered. A potted palm, drought tolerant or not, needs watering much more often than one in the ground that’s established. I have 2 smaller foxys, and they were sensitive to repotting; it stunted their growth for several months. Also the variegation seems to be a morphological example of hybrid decline as the greens show hybrid vigor.
Good stuff when ever someone finds a full green or the lucky charm let me know would like a small one it’s almost like finding Waldo There is full green and mostly green. Exactly I believe even the green form has some at some point I saw a mature green form produce some variation. Did not notice the variegation earlier but as Jim pointed out, on the lower leaf there it is. Yeah I could tell it is 100% green as well. If anyone can find a pic of a small full green please post to show the difference thank you
Hybrids seem to have a higher rate of growth for some reason. The seed looks pretty elongated, so I would think it would have a lot of Vetchia characteristics. Maybe something I might try to track as time goes on.

F1 hybrids tend to be more consistent, and I guess this is why what we know as a foxy lady (F1) has its signature look. Is there any way to tell if seeds are hybridized by looking at them as they develop? My big green one enjoys full sun however and is the fastest growing palm in my landscape and I have hundreds of palms in the ground.
There are no light colored green leaves and zero variegation. That palm is 100% solid dark healthy green. David the light must be playing tricks in the photo, this palm has zero variegation. So my question would be if this palm is mostly green will it do well in full sun Full greens do not have any variegation. They can be solid green without any variegation.

If you do the 24hr soak thing, put a weak solution of seaweed extract in the water too. This would happen far more quickly for you than it does for those of us in the humid tropics where the plant tissues survive on atmospheric moisture for ages before the final collapse. Do you have a FULL shade spot under some trees or overhang? I used a 4 foot bamboo stick I bought at Home Depot and tied it to the broken leaf. Mine’s established and I still water it almost daily. Secondly, drought tolerance is typically referring to in ground established plants.
Hello, I’m a novice collector and bought a 15 gallon foxy lady from a seller in Temecula, CA about 2 and a half weeks ago. In fact, about all the foxyladies that exhibited extreme variegation did not survive. Foxtails that I’ve grown all seem to throw one spear and sit for a long time (weeks to months), at which point they resume normal growth. Apparently when the greenies are much older they can also put out the odd variegated leaf. I ask because I have 3 one leaf seedlings and they all have variegation so I’m just curious if they’ll all keep this as adults

From what I understand, this tree has been in the pot all along and was not recently potted from a field grown specimen. By the looks of it, drying and wilting, what’re the odds of a rebound if I get it in the ground with profuse water? I highly recommend that you just plant this.
